About Me...
It was athletics that kept me engaged in school in my youth, and the lessons learned on the pitch, on the court, and at the rink remain invaluable to me today. I learned how to win and lose; I learned that my best effort might result in a loss and yet my worst could be offset by the play of my teammates; I learned about empathy, practice, commitment, and grit. As a collegiate athlete those lessons and more would become indelibly etched into who I would become, and they have made me a better student, father, colleague, leader, and all around better person.
Returning to Vermont in 2011 I would spend the last 12 years as assistant principal, principal, and social emotional interventionist in the Slate Valley in Fair Haven, Vermont. The core of my learning about learning would take place at Montana Academy as both teacher and leadership member where I would come to understand that relationships truly are at the heart of all that we do in education, that accurate recognition and limit setting are necessary for everyone, and that the bulk of our work within the school is about maturation: allowing our students to grow & learn & make mistakes in a safe, caring environment.
Proud father to three boys: twin high schoolers and their adorable one-year old brother. Along with my fiance and German Shepard we enjoy living in the Vermont woods in a cabin on Sunset Lake. If I’m not making improvements to our home I can be found either on the road to visit family and friends; on the pitch or a sheet of ice somewhere playing soccer or hockey; or on the couch in front of the wood stove with a good read in hand.
